Don't Be Lazy
Those feet were made for walking.
Cars emit 25% of our carbon emissions, so finding ways to reduce your driving miles will make a huge impact. Drive less by carpooling, walking, riding a bike and working from home one day a week. (More) While it might not be practical to walk to work, unless you’re lucky enough to work close to home, think about all of those small car trips you make to the market or local restaurants. Come on, admit it – you can be pretty lazy sometimes. Consider walking or riding your bike when it’s practical.
Commuting to work puts on most of our miles. By carpooling, even just a few days a week, you’ll save tons of money on gas and have a more enjoyable commute.
And when you do get behind the wheel, be smart about it. Slow down. Just by driving 60 miles per hour instead of 70 miles per hour, you can improve your gas mileage by up to 4 miles per gallon. And, all of that mad pedal-to-the-metal action and slamming on your brakes reduces your fuel economy, so take it easy. Lastly, keep your tires inflated to the proper level. Under-inflated tires decrease fuel economy by up to 3%.
