Why apply toxic cleaners to household surfaces your family will touch every day? Using these products containing VOCs (volatile organic compounds), exposes your family to chemicals that may cause cancer and other diseases. Studies have confirmed that VOC levels inside our homes is 10 times greater than outdoors. VOCs from chemical cleaning products, vaporize and enter the atmosphere turning into air pollution and contaminating water supplies.

Almost every grocery store and any natural food market now offer a variety of natural based cleaning products. There are many brands to choose from. Just look for products without chlorine or ammonia and look up any ingredients that aren’t self explanatory. Also, try to avoid dish washing soaps and detergents that contain phosphates, which can offset the balance in our water systems.

Natural cleaning products can be a little bit more expensive than others, so there’s always the option of mixing your own at home with common household items like lemon juice and vinegar. There are many resources on the web with recipes for homemade cleaning products.
