Living in the Orange ZoneThe Orange Zone at Pacific Ashtanga Yoga ShalaWith Diana ChristinsonWhat is the Orange Zone?
“The Orange Zone teachings, practices, and programs are really just simple ways for us to change patterns of things that don’t serve us and to move and shift into new ways of holding our bodies, of breathing, of changing our thinking patterns to be our most vibrant, healthy self.”
This is what Diana calls, “Living in the Orange Zone.” Spread Hope Daily
Welcome to Spread Hope.
Today I wanted to kind of come back to the beginning when we started this whole daily series called Spread Hope. We had closed the shala, our students were unable to come together and unite for practice and teachings. I committed to keeping the community together, healthy, hopeful, and inspired. I was using this format to try to uplift everyone and keep us feeling connected to each other. It’s been almost two months now. The shala closed, many businesses are closed, people’s jobs have changed, and some people aren’t working right now. It’s been incredibly important to me to continue to hold a space for all of us. I am ready now to feel like things are shifting, maybe we’re starting to go back to work, and some businesses might be reopening. I feel it’s so important right now to keep all of us, no matter where we are in this transition, feeling inspired and healthy. The Three Aspects of Ourselves
The things we’ve been talking about for the past couple of months (with Spread Hope) have been teachings that I have been sharing with my students for 15 or 20 years. Last year, I put them under this umbrella that I started referring to as the Orange Zone.
I loved it because it was so simple. It was a great visual, it was a color. it was about getting out of our habitual patterns in our three bodies. Our three aspects of ourselves, my physical body, my energy body, and my thinking or feeling self. All the teachings were around “how do we take care of all aspects of our self”, that of course touch each other, we can never separate the two. I’ve loved for years studying psychology, being in that career and then also bringing yoga and breath and energy into that, knowing that when we’re working on all three of those, we’re bringing health to all aspects of our self. The Orange Zone of Possibility
Breaking out of habitual patterns of how we hold our bodies when we’re sitting, we’re driving, we’re on our devices, we’re on our computers, into what I call the Orange Zone of Possibility. Opening our chest with yoga and stretching our spine and getting into these neglected areas. I call that possibility, Orange Zone.
As well, we do that with our breathing. We get into breathing patterns that are anxious patterns or closed patterns from our habitual patterns of how we are living our lives and how we’re holding our bodies. Again, being in a practice like yoga, or having a breath practice; we take deep breaths and breathe into the chest. We know how that creates possibility which affects this third part of our selves we talk about, which is our feeling self, our emotions and patterns we get into. Right now, a pattern for a lot of us is worrying. As we study the second brain, to be aware right now that I’m in this pattern that’s not serving, not only my thinking self, but my physical body. The Orange Zone was really named from this idea that every morning the sun rises and creates this beautiful spread of colors for us.
The Orange Zone teachings, practices, and programs are really just these simple ways for us to change patterns of things that don’t serve us and to move and shift into new ways of holding our bodies, of breathing, of changing our thinking patterns to be our most vibrant, healthy self.
So stay tuned. I have some new, exciting ideas for us moving forward that have to do with Living in the Orange Zone. |
